He has personal relationships with numerous wineries large and small. He started as a barge captain and has since become an expert on the wines of France. In Beaune we met Brendan, a Brit who has been living in France for over 30 years. The room was large and comfortable, albeit a bit dated, and could use a new mattress but exuded that old-world charm. The hotel upgraded us to an executive room with a large balcony. We saw the tides and Giselle shared stories of how she has twice had to call for helicopters to rescue people.įrom Normandy, we arrived in Beaune in Burgundy. We learned about the medical texts that were amassed there during the time of the abbey and how this knowledge was lost in the French Revolution when much was burned and destroyed. Another guide, Giselle, who hails from Brazil but came to France as a college student at the Sorbonne and has a doctorate in history, made Mont St Michel so interesting. From Bayeux, we took a D-Day tour with a guide who had interviewed veterans of WW2, as well as people living in the area, and amassed a collection of stories that make the sites come alive and give you a more intimate connection to the events. The rooms were comfortable, large, and had all the bells and whistles you could want. In Normandy, we stayed at a perfectly located hotel, Villa Lara, which is owned and managed by a family. We had a great itinerary that helped us check many things off our bucket list and even add a few new things to it. PANDEMIC TRAVEL We had a wonderful honeymoon with Phillip’s team. Of course we checked in with the chefs at each camp, but they had everything under control which made us feel very comfortable.įrance: D-Day stories, family wineries, Seine cruise… He made sure that the camps knew that we wanted to eat alone as a group because we feel more comfortable being on our own schedule.Īlso, my daughters have food allergies and Dan made sure the camps were well aware of what was safe vs not. Dan suggested camps that worked beautifully for our family. Since we’ve been on several safaris already, we have learned what we like (eating at different and varying places around the camps) and don’t (bucket showers). A lot of back-and-forth trying to make appropriate camps work for the dates we wanted. The first for my future son-in-law.ĭan had the unenviable task of creating a trip that would appeal to three generations of the family, and he had to work around our very tight vacation schedule. PANDEMIC TRAVEL We just returned from a great trip to Botswana planned by Dan and his office.įor five of the six of us this was our fourth Safari. This trip should be on everyone’s bucket list – we are lucky to have gone! Dan’s office provided all the guidance – we are busy execs and didn’t have time for much planning or discussion – and info we needed. The local team and guides from Bush & Beyond were exceptional – every departure leaving with a hug and heartfelt wish to see them again. We saw WAY more than the Big 5, had many take-your-breath-away moments, fed a blind black rhino, pet baby elephants, fed giraffes, visited chimps saved from a bush-meat market, jumped, danced and laughed with the Maasai, and went on almost 20 game drives! They added fun twists like breakfast out in the plains, dinner in the bush, and flexibility when we needed it. Each location – Amboseli, Ol Pejeta, Maasai Mara – revealed more of Kenya’s treasures: the people, the animals, the landscape and the spirit. #Katie webber etna maine wedding plusWe stayed in 4 places (Nairobi plus 3 camps) and experienced a variety of accommodations and settings that progressed magically and logically. PANDEMIC TRAVEL Our 2-week safari trip to Kenya was nothing short of EPIC! Four families with teenagers traveled together in a perfectly planned trip by Dan and his team.
